Review - The Original Sin

ASRAI As voices speak (CD)(Own Release)

The land that gave us Clan Of Xymox and Malochia (that's in Holland!) is giving us a new gothsensation called Asrai! Well, new isn't exactly the right word to use for a band who's already active since 1988, but with their new line-up and first CD-release it's like they're on a new start. Some of you might know this band from their apearance on the very well known gothsampler "Touched by the hand of goth", but it's kind of impossible to judge them on one song alone. This album has so many influences that it goes from 80's gothwaveband Cindytalk to the atmospheric rock from The Gathering. So all by all, Asrai aren't a real gothband.it's more like one very good structured blend from rock and goth. Throughout the whole record Margriet sings like a chameleon.sometimes she's drifting away on darkwave-songs ("Something" sounds a bit like the ethereal dark pop from The Cocteau Twins) and at other times it's like early Christian Death are back. With bands like The essence, The Gentry or (of course!) Clan Of Xymox I always knew that Holland can come up with briljant dark pop and I'm glad that I can add Asrai to that list (CONTACT : ASRAI, POSTBUS 619, 31OO AP SCHIEDAM, THE NETHERLANDS)(http://listen.to/asrai)
